Geneva Airport to Chamonix

What is the best way to get from Geneva Airport to Chamonix? Is it better to to take the train from Geneva to Chamonix? Or is it easier to go from Geneva Airport to Chamonix by bus?

The best way to get from Geneva Airport to Chamonix

The best way to get from Geneva Airport to Chamonix is definitely by an airport transfer bus. The train from Geneva to Chamonix is a bit tricky and takes a lot longer as it’s not direct.

I always take a Geneva Airport to Chamonix transfer bus. They are really easy to book online and take roughly only around an hour and 15 minutes to get to Chamonix.

There are three types of Geneva Airport to Chamonix transfer buses.

1. Door to door shared transfer bus

Booking a door to door shared transfer bus from Geneva Airport to Chamonix is in my opinion the best option. These shuttle buses take normally up to around 15 people, are miles cheaper than a private transfer bus and are convenient as they will drop you to your exact address in Chamonix rather than leaving you at Chamonix bus station.

You will need to wait around in the airport for your transfer bus to leave at a specific time but they normally leave once every hour. Door to door shared transfer buses from Geneva Airport to Chamonix cost upwards of €30 per person. There are many companies operating this service and note in low season they often pool resources so even though you booked your ticket through one company, you may actually get on a shuttle bus from another company. This is normal and doesn’t really affect the service.

I personally recommend Mountain Dropoffs. Their website is really easy to use (don’t worry it’s all in English). They’re really reliable and always go the extra mile.

2. Private door to door transfer bus

Private door to door bus transfers from Geneva Airport to Chamonix are just that – private! Being so they cost a lot more money! If you are a large group of trekkers then it’s probably worth it but if not take the shared transfer option above. All the Geneva Airport to Chamonix shuttle buses generally offer a private or a shared transfer.

3. Shared transfer bus that drops you in Chamonix centre

For those on a strict budget there are a couple of cheaper transfer buses such as Easybus that pick up from Geneva Airport and will drop you in Chamonix centre, rather than door to door at your hotel, apartment or campsite! However sometimes these can be unreliable and it can be a slog getting to your hotel from the main bus station. For a little extra I think its worth it to be dropped off and picked up at your hotel so I always opt for No 1 above – the door to door shared transfer so I’m not worrying.
